Terms of Service

The rules of using FareGrade.

Last updated: May 2026
Plain-English summary: FareGrade gives you fare predictions and a grade based on data and modeling. We try to be accurate, but we're not a guarantor. Fares change. Always verify on the airline's site before booking. Use the site for personal travel research. Don't scrape it. Don't sue us if a prediction misses.

1. Acceptance

By accessing or using FareGrade ("the site," "we," "us"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the site. These terms apply to all visitors and users.

2. What FareGrade is

FareGrade is a free, web-based tool that grades airline fares from A+ to F using a combination of (a) live fare data sourced from third-party airline-data APIs, and (b) a predictive model based on published booking-window research, route-distance pricing, and seasonality patterns. The site also offers a 12-month price-prediction heatmap, a budget-first reverse-flight-search, and a Discover Map of destinations within a user's budget.

FareGrade does not sell flights. We do not facilitate, complete, or process bookings. When you click a "Book on Aviasales" link, you leave FareGrade and enter a third-party site (Aviasales, operated by Travelpayouts) governed by their own terms.

3. Predictions are estimates — not guarantees

Important: read this carefully. FareGrade's grades, predicted prices, "typical fare" baselines, and the 12-month heatmap are predictions and estimates, not guarantees. They are based on historical data, modeled seasonality, route distance, and (when available) live API snapshots. Actual fares change continuously, vary by airline and booking class, and may be higher or lower than what FareGrade displays. The grade you see is a recommendation, not a financial commitment, an offer, or a contract. You are responsible for verifying the actual fare on the airline's website or another reputable source before completing any booking.

4. Not financial advice

Nothing on FareGrade constitutes financial, investment, travel, or legal advice. Decisions to book, wait, or change travel plans are yours alone. We are not responsible for any financial loss, missed opportunity, or other consequence resulting from your use of, or reliance on, information provided by FareGrade.

5. Affiliate disclosure

In compliance with FTC guidelines (16 CFR § 255), FareGrade discloses that the "Book on Aviasales" links are affiliate links. When you click one and complete a booking, we may earn a commission. This commission never affects the grade displayed, the routes we surface, the order of destinations on the Discover Map, or any prediction or recommendation we make. The grading engine, predictive model, and live-price overlay all operate independently of affiliate revenue.

6. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law:

7. Permitted use

You may use FareGrade for personal, non-commercial travel research. You agree that you will not:

8. Intellectual property

All content on FareGrade — the design, brand name "FareGrade," code, predictive model, and copy — is owned by Alain Castellanos Pineda or licensed for use on this site. The Leaflet mapping library is open-source under the BSD-2 license. Map tiles are provided by CartoDB under their license terms. Airline data is sourced from Travelpayouts under their API agreement. None of these terms grant you any rights in our intellectual property beyond personal use of the site as intended.

9. Third-party services and links

The site links to and integrates with third parties, including Travelpayouts (flight data API), Aviasales (booking destination), Netlify (hosting), and Umami (analytics). FareGrade is not responsible for the content, accuracy, privacy practices, or availability of any third-party site or service. Your use of those services is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.

10. Termination

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue FareGrade — in whole or in part — at any time, with or without notice, for any reason. We may also restrict access to specific users who violate these terms. Termination does not affect any provisions that by their nature should survive (e.g., disclaimers, limitations of liability).

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless FareGrade and its operator from any claim, loss, or expense (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your use of the site, your violation of these terms, or your violation of any rights of a third party.

12. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any legal action arising from your use of FareGrade shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Harris County, Texas, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.

If you reside outside the United States, you may have additional rights under your local consumer-protection law that cannot be waived. Nothing in these terms is intended to limit such rights.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The current version always lives at this URL with the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use of FareGrade after a change means you accept the updated terms. For material changes, we will try to give reasonable notice (e.g., a banner on the homepage).

14. Severability

If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full effect. The unenforceable provision shall be replaced by an enforceable one that most closely matches its original intent.
